The Farnham Market

Farnham was developed as a subdivision in the 1960s and 1970s by a well-known local home builder, Shannon, Inc. Shannon offered a variety of models including 3 & 4 bedroom ranch styles, 3 & 4 bedroom split levels and several 4 to 6 bedroom 2-story plans.

Known for its tree-lined streets, Farnham is a very popular, family-oriented neighborhood due to its convenient, central location. It’s only 1 mile to the commuter train station in downtown Wheaton and close to the Danada/Rice Lake shopping areas and the Wheaton Park District recreation facility. Farnham borders Seven Gables Park to the south, Chicago Golf Club to the west and Naperville Road to the east.

Younger families are moving into the neighborhood as many of the original homeowners retire and move into condominiums or townhomes. Parents are attracted to the area’s highly-ranked schools that include Whittier Elementary School, Edison Middle School, and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School – all within close proximity to Farnham.

As a result of the popularity and convenience of the neighborhood, many Farnham homeowners choose to remodel and/or expand their current homes rather than move elsewhere. These improvements can produce a substantial increase in the value of homes as shown in the statistics below. Homes that have been substantially remodeled and well maintained (interior & exterior) sell at prices approaching or above $200 per square foot. Homes with deferred maintenance and/or dated interiors sell below $150 per square foot. Most homes in Farnham – those with good maintenance and ongoing upgrades – currently sell in the range of $155 to $175 per square foot.
